Great - nil

Europa League second leg at the Lane. So comfortable, our players could have sat in sofas for the duration of the ninety minutes.  Yes, the opposition did not cause us concern over the two legs, but there's an attitude in performance that has already eclipsed last seasons snoozy slumpy European misadventure.

With the Thursday to Sunday routine in mind, we don't want a repeat of player distraction and tiredness whilst both the squad and the supporters struggle with prioritisation. What Andre Villas-Boas is beginning to craft is a streamlined squad of quality with no deadwood where we can make up to nine first team changes and still retain shape and play with intent. Sure, better opposition might require more first teamers and our traditional rotational headache will make an appearance again. We'll have to wait and see.

Loved Tom Carroll this evening. In a selfish way would want us to hold onto him so he can play all the cup games and European nights but at the same time a season long Prem loan might be far more productive. Control, confidence and vision. That look up and quick release of the ball. Intelligent possession and passing. Diagonal through-balls and awareness of movement of his team mates. Really good (again comfortable the word of the evening) run out.

Holtby took time to settle into the 'hole' then stepped it up with a fine display proving that those frantic cameo appearances of last season we're not a snapshot of what to expect this season. Cracking finish for his goal (having scored a blinder for the U21's against West Ham recently). Can't complain much at the Klinsmann dive. Get the feeling if he scored an important goal in a high pressure game he'll explode.

Defoe with a brace, the first a texbook lash of the ball (after a cute Holtby pass) and the second a tap in after good work from Walker and Sigurdsson. Standing ovation for him, no matter your opinion (no matter mine) he's now our sixth highest goal scorer with 135 goals.

Sig, a little untidy at times. Hit the woodwork but then that's his signature. If Holtby's nickname is 'lucky' then Sigurdsson's is 'f****** unlucky'.

Sandro's beard. It's like he dipped his head into jam.

This was a Spurs b-team. Good attitude, so much better than last season. Players look enthused and determined. No injuries. Good nights work.

All eyes on Sunday now.  Don't discount tomorrow. Got to expect a triple-signing photo opp at Hotspur Way.
