'You're not singing Maribor'
Well done to everyone who turned up and sang for ninety minutes up in the top corner of the Shelf, Block J. It made such a difference on the night and it proved that there are plenty of like-minded individuals who desire the same match-day experience, to sing continuously without complacency no matter what is happening on the pitch but to also be reactive and proactive at the same time (for example, singing after the Lloris/Naughton mistake and into half-time). The reaction from the rest of the ground wasn't as relentless in response, but perhaps others that witnessed it and couldn't start a song in their block might wish to be part of 1882 next time round.
Most present in Block J are Park Lane regulars, yet on any given Saturday there is no towering chants to accompany the football. This isn't about segregation or splintered support. We're not a group. Just supporters that want to sing. The Fighting Cock simply has an official line into Tottenham for them to aid us with ticket allocation if it's feasible to do so. We want to reclaim that strong consistent vocal presence at the Lane to avoid lulls in atmosphere and to create and inspire more support from other areas of the pitch. A reminder to when the Park Lane and Shelf Side sang at each other and together with pride no matter the occasion.
1882 was originally set up for following and supporting the youth team. Give them some backing because why should they not warrant the same level of passion that the first team have been accustomed to? They all wear Lilywhite, right? We went to Charlton away in the FA Cup last season and to the home game against Barca in the NextGen. We'll be hopefully doing this again soon (perhaps another FA Youth Cup away day).
This was the first time 1882 got together for a first team game. European matches and their ticket allocation differs from Premier League, so it gave us an opportunity to settle into Block J and sing our hearts out.
Ask anyone who went how great an experience it was. Yet all they did was stand, sit, stand and sing. Not everyone's cup of tea, but an essential noise that's been missing in action for too long.
We're all Tottenham. We all love the shirt. We all want White Hart Lane to be a fortress.
In the mean time, look out for official information on 1882 on The Fighting Cock website.
